Lawrence Walker’s Presidency 1991

In 1991, Lawrence Walker replaced Ron Hill as president of the NAACP. His goal for his presidency was to bring the community closer together. A Wooster Ohio native, he hoped to use his deep roots in the community to increase the profile of the organization. During his presidency, the organization continued its commitment to addressing racial injustice in the local community and providing local scholarships. He helped in educating the community about racial injustices, and helped to continue acts of social justice in the community.

In 1992, the NAACP partnered with aMedina/Wayne Minority Network to provide for education and training programs in a variety of areas including drug education, sex education, dressing for success, job training, and political awareness. Lawrence Walker also organized parents to groups for meeting the needs of school children. By joining forces with the minority network, the NAACP expanded its reach and resources in advocating for equitable education opportunities and promoting the academic success of students from marginalized backgrounds.1
